Bast Exhibit

BAST – Jill Powers & Lisa Miles

September 26 to October 20th, 2024
D’Art Gallery

Jill Powers and Lisa Miles use the inner bark, or bast, of the paper mulberry tree as a central material in their art. Honoring ancestral practices, and connecting with ancient papermaking traditions, this show explores several distinct, innovative approaches for using bast fiber to convey a deep connection with the natural world.

This exhibition is shown concurrently with a second exhibition, co-curated by Jill Powers and Lisa Miles,  Bark Rhythms: Contemporary Innovations and Ancestral Traditions at a nearby gallery,  Niza Knoll Gallery, in the Santa Fe Arts District in Denver.
