Mating! The silk moths find each other

Category: Silkworms    —    Mar 22, 04:10 PM

The silk moths rest a few moments, and then the female begins scenting for a mate. The male senses her with his large antennae, and buzzes around until he finds her. They immediately mate and this can last for many hours. These are two silk moths mating on the bottom of a woven basket. You can see the eggs inside the yellowish sections of the female's body at the top of the photograph.
