Spinning Silk Cocoons

Category: Silkworms    —    Nov 15, 01:58 PM

One of the most intriguing and beautiful moments in the whole process of raising silkworms is when they begin to spin their cocoons! I am raising silkworms to spin their cocoons inside my sculptures! They go into the space I designed for them and begin to spin silk all over, creating a network of strong silk fiber which will hold the cocoon. Then they start spinning the cocoon shape all around themselves, continuing for three days until they are fully encased in the cocoon. The silk filament of the cocoon is one unbroken thread a mile long!
